Introduction
A Glimpse Into My Life
Visiting Texas Tulips
Hello everyone, my name is Adriana and I am a coffee addict. I am a Communication Major at the University of Oklahoma (obviously). What I like most about my major is how diverse it can be. I love that I have options and am able to do what I want with my major because it is applicable in so many ways. I am graduating this May and could not be more excited. I recently accepted a position with an awesome company that allows for me to relocate back to Dallas. My family is in Dallas, so this was such exciting news that I still have not shared, but will tell them here soon.

Speaking of travel, I love to do it. My boyfriend and I travel quite often with the Air Force. During Spring Break or our summers, we always ask for orders and are so blessed to be sent to awesome places. This past year we went to Florida, North Dakota, California, Virginia, and Alaska. While we did have to work, we were able to spend quality time at Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida and even go hiking in Fairbanks, Alaska. We have a tradition of taking Polaroid photos wherever we go and then hang them on our wall when we return home. In my first blog post, I shared a photo of a couple of our Polaroid photos from Washington DC.

Blurred out plane information for obvious security reasons
Yes, I did mention the Air Force up above. I am a traditional Reservist for the United States Air Force. I did serve time as Active Duty, however, decided to change my status in order to return to school. My job in the Air Force is Air Transportation and the easiest way to explain this is to compare it to an airport. When you arrive and there is an agent to check in your bags or check you in for a flight, that is what I do. Now, think back to your last flight and the people you look out the window and see loading the plane with all of your bags, animals, or even wine that you are bringing back from a foreign country. Yes, that is also a part of my job. Ever wonder how cargo pallets get built? You know who does it? You guessed right! That is also included in my career choice. Air Transportation is extremely diverse and there is many components that are not listed above. It constantly keeps you on your toes because no day is the same. I have been in 5.5 years and I am still learning new material or new ways of how to perform tasks.
Selena striking a pose
When I am not caught up with school, traveling, or my Air Force commitments, I am at home with my dogs. This story gets a little more complicated. I live in a house of 5 people (myself included), and almost all of us have our own dog. My house consists of myself, my brother, my cousin, and my 2 best friends. I am sure that Jasmine sounds very familiar. At the moment, there are 4 dogs in the house and the youngest is named Selena who is my pride and joy. Selena is a 5 month old lab/collie mix with a very sassy personality. Rey is the next princess in line and she is also a lab/collie mix. We refer to Rey as the "government issued dog" because she is beyond well behaved and makes Selena look more crazy than she is. The oldest 2 are named Bear and Rifle. Bear and Rifle are Miniature Schnauzers and are also brother and sister. If you want to see a picture of these cuties, visit Jasmine's blog! The best way to describe these 2 is as anti-social because they hang out in their mom's room upstairs. Living with 4 dogs has taught me that this is their world and I am just living in it.
This is my crazy life. I hope you all enjoyed learning about me and I look forward to reading your blog posts as well!
Wow that does seem like a crazy life! The amount of traveling that you still get to do with the Air Force is awesome. Yeah you still have to work, but being paid to work and go to these places doesn't sound too bad :). I'm jealous that you got to see Harry Potter World, I went before it was finished... I can also totally see how that sweet looking dog could become crazy right after that picture was taken, and I am surprised that you even got such a nice picture.
ReplyDeleteHi Adriana,
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your position at your company that allowed you to relocate back home. I personally have a lot of close family and friends how live there and I love visiting the city any chance I have. I am so jealous you get to travel everywhere. That sounds so fun. I especially love the picture of you enjoying butter beer at Harry Potter World. Butterbeer is my absolute favorite and I wanna go back to Disney just for that - and the churros.
Hey Adriana, although I am not in the military my dad is. He has been in the Air Force for 33 years. GO Air Force! Because of him being in the military, I have had many opportunities to travel around the world. We got stationed at Anderson AFB and Kadena AFB which were my two favorite places we have been. So if you ever get the chance to go there I would highly recommend it! I too plan to join the military but after medical school so that I could be a flight surgeon for the Air Force.
ReplyDeleteI hope you continue to enjoy the adventure of being in the military and traveling around the world.
Oh wow, congratulations on having a job lined up already, Adriana: what a great way to be able to just kick back and enjoy your final semester at OU! And that picture of you and "your" plane is so cool! My husband did his career in the Air Force as a meteorologist and then after he retired from that career he taught at OU (which is how we met). And little Selena is adorable: she may be just a puppy, but she looks like she rules the world! And this may sound silly, but I love this idea of the "dogs' world" that we just happen to live in: maybe you could do a version of the Ramayana where all the characters are dogs! Someone did a project in Myth-Folklore with Greek mythology acted out by cats, and it worked great (The Cat Gods and Tales of Heraclaws)... maybe you could use the fact that you are living in the dogs' world inspire some stories or even a Storybook in this class too!
ReplyDeleteHi Adriana, I really enjoyed reading your introduction post! I think it awesome you are in the air force reserve. I am an aviation major here at Oklahoma University and love anything airplanes so when I saw your pictures with the C-17 I was like "thats dope!" I'm pretty jealous you're graduating in May, I have a couple more semesters left here but I wish you the best with your new job in Dallas this summer! Also I love your dog, college needs more doggos!
ReplyDeleteHey Adriana, first and foremost, thank you for your service! What an awesome way to get to see the world while doing something meaningful. I love the idea of having a wall of Polaroids from your travels, I might just have to steal that idea! I'm honestly a little jealous that you're living with so many dogs, my roommates and I have a sweet little 8lbs Pomeranian but I grew up always having at least 3 big dogs so I miss having a pack!
ReplyDeleteAdriana!
ReplyDeleteYour post about the dogs were hilarious! I love dogs and truly think they are some of the purest creatures on the planet. When I grow up, I want to get three more dogs. I have two small one right now, so I'll need to mix up with some big dogs. Also, I think it is super cool you are in the Air Force! Both of my parents retired from there, but I was able to travel to a lot of amazing places because of where the military took them!
Jasmine.. I know you have two dogs.. We live together..
DeleteHi Adriana!
ReplyDeleteOkay sweet Selena is ADORABLE. I'm obsessed with that picture. Also I love that tradition you and your boyfriend have about taking polaroids, that is so cute. Congratulations on the job! I cannot wait until I get to that point and I can stop stressing out about it all the time!! My mom and dad both served in the Air Force so I love hearing about your adventures. Thank you for your service! I hope I get to see more of your stories in the future, have the best semester!
Hello Adriana, your life sounds very interesting and full of excitement! I think that you have gotten to do the things you love to and you continue to get to do them. I am jealous that you got to go hiking in Fairbanks, AL because I love to hike and hiking in Alaska would be beautiful. Your dog is gorgeous as well and I can tell she is full of sass. It was great getting to know you a little bit! Have a good semester!
ReplyDeleteHi Adriana,
ReplyDeleteIt is great to meet you. It is cool that you are a communications major, and already have a job waiting for you when you graduate! I am a senior, but will not graduate until next fall. I hope you are enjoying your last semester! Also, I am jealous that you get to travel all of the time, and that your job allows you to! That is so great. I hope to travel more once I am graduated!
Hi Adriana!
ReplyDeleteWow, you have such a diverse set of things going on in life! Selena is so adorable, I wish we were allowed to have pets in Traditions! It is really neat you get to travel so much for your position and have gotten to explore other parts of the US. If you could travel outside of the country to anywhere, where would it be? It was nice meeting you!

Hey Adriana! I am in the Air National Guard here in Oklahoma City! It is quite an interesting experience to be in the Air Force but also full time in college. I have found that there are tons of people I know and many that I have met, such as yourself, who are in school but also have to attend drill for the Reserves or the Guard. It's also cool you're able to go on short TDY's, I certainly have not had that option yet! Good luck with the rest of your career! Oh, and aim high airman... hahaha
ReplyDeleteHaha the Aim High definitely brought back memories from BMT! Guard is funded by the state, so if you want to get on more TDY's or more opportunities for orders, I highly recommend switching to the Reserves!
DeleteHaha I hope I didn't bring back a terrible memory! Oh okay! I didn't know they went on more TDY's. Thanks for letting me know!
DeleteHey Adriana. First off I wanted to say thanks for your service. It is always exciting to see people who have been or are currently serving in the military. My father was in the military so we constantly moved around a whole bunch. It is nice to travel to different places and experience new things, but after a while I would like to stay in one place and relax. The military offers so many great opportunities. I love that picture of your dog! I really want a dog but I don't know if I will have to time commitment to take care of one.
ReplyDeleteHi Adriana!
ReplyDeleteYour life may seem crazy, but it does seem very happy and full! It is so cool that you have traveled to so many places with the Air Force! Are you and your boyfriend in the Air Force together? I also went to Universal Studios in Orlando, and I loved it! Best of luck on your graduation and congratulations on your new job!
Adriana, it isn’t often that I come across someone that understands the difficulty in explaining to others what I did in the military, but it sounds like you feel the pain. I was a Marine helicopter crew chief, which means I played the roll of everything from aerial gunner, to load master, to flight engineer for my particular airframe. Not many people know what all that means, but I know you do! Thank you for your service! Your dogs sound great, particularly Selena and Rey. My wife and I have a Collie/German Shepard mix who we love so much but he isn’t nearly as smart as he should be considering his breeds. I hope you continue to find new and exciting places to take your Polaroid’s and I wish you well as you find your way back to Dallas!
ReplyDeleteI feel you on the coffee addict thing. Just this semester I have one writing professor who has literally brought up the fact that Americans have normalized drug culture by means of coffee. That class has been interesting, to say the least. Also, I love your dog, Selena, she looks too cute! It must be quite fun living with that many dogs. I've been thinking about getting one since I live alone, but I figure I should wait until school is out and I can have more time for one.
ReplyDeleteHi Adriana, congrats on landing a great job in the city you want to live in. I definitely understand wanting to live in the city you’re from. I wanted to say thank you for your service in the Air Force, and I am glad that you had such a great time working at different places. Lastly, your puppy is super cute.
ReplyDeleteHey Adriana,
ReplyDeleteWow you are really living the life. It is nice that you get to go to many places and with your boyfriend also! I am impressed with your dedication to your work. Five years is a long time! I love your dog situation. I want to live in a house filled with dogs. I currently have one dog named Rocky. He is a good boy :)
Your classmate,
Joanna
Hello Adriana,
ReplyDeleteYour life sounds very busy but also very fun. I am very jealous that you get to travel so much, even though you have to work while you do! I also find very excuse to travel when I get the chance. Congratulations on having a job after graduation and close to family, that’s great! I also love the picture of your dog, I have been waiting to get a dog after graduation and I am so excited!
Hello, Adriana!
ReplyDeleteI also have a strong addiction to coffee!! It is literally the first thing I think about when I wake up in the morning... that may be sad but I have no shame (lol). I wish I could travel as much as you do, and I wish I had a job that made me travel so I would have an excuse to do it. Your doggo is very cute!! I have had puppy fever lately and I'm starting to really want one of my own. I hope to read more of your posts!
Hi Adriana!
ReplyDeleteI loved getting to know you through your intro blog post. Selena looks so sassy and cute in the picture you shared. I love traveling as well. It's nice that the Air Force provides that as a perk for you! Congratulations on graduating in May and your job! I wish you the best of luck!!
Hi Adriana! Its’s so nice to finally meet you! I think that it’s so cool that you get to travel pretty often due to the Air Force. Did you really get to go the Harry Potter World?! I’ve always wanted to go ever since they had, but never got the chance. How was it over there? What was your favorite part of the Harry Potter World?
ReplyDeleteHi Adriana,
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on finding a job that will let you live back home with your family in Texas. Your job in the Air Force is Air Transportation sounds really interesting. It is always good to find a job where you feel like your constantly learning new things. I look forward to reading more of your blog posts in the future.
Hi Adriana!
ReplyDeleteI too, have coffee to thank for getting me through college! Yay for graduation being so soon! It’s awesome that you get to travel so much, and that you have such a fun way of capturing those memories. Your dog is adorable, and that photo of her made my day! Best of luck with your new job, and thank you for your service!
Hi Adriana!
ReplyDeleteYou have such an exciting life! Congratulations on getting a job. I'm graduating in May too, and I'm still not quite sure what I'm doing with my life. It's neat that you get to travel so much. I would love to travel, but I simply don't have the time. I hope after graduation, I'll be a tad bit less involved and can go explore like you do. Good luck in your classes!
Hey Adriana!
ReplyDeleteIt's nice to meet you. :) Firstly, I like the set-up of your blog/post because it looks very clean. Secondly, I think it is awesome that you are with the Air Force and for 5.5 years no less! Being a Communications major must be interesting! I have heard from friends that general communications courses are kind of tough so I can't really picture what the courses would be like. I love dogs, well really any animal. I own three cats myself and can't imagine having four dogs in the house, but it must be fun. I can't wait to read your stories!
Hi Adriana,
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, Congratulations on graduating. Like you, I am also a complete caffeine addict. Is so cool that you get to travel to a bunch of places. A couple of weeks ago, I also visited Universal Studios in Orlando and had a blast. Also, Selena is super adorable. I hope you are having a great semester and I look forward to reading your stories.
Hi Adriana,
ReplyDeleteLike Kevin said above me, congrats on your new position in Dallas! Also that is amazing you have already served in the air force and are still so young! Anything, even air transportation, in the military is something to be proud to be apart in. That is so cool you are also able to travel to some many placed you work alongside your boyfriend, what a great way to see the world! Also, congrats on graduating soon! I tried out the Comm thing and respects those who can write all of those papers!
Hi Adriana,
ReplyDeleteIt is lovely to meet a fellow coffee addict. I recently read a study that said it could be harmful to drink more than 5 (8oz) cups a day and almost cried.
Selena is so gorgeous! She looks identical to my Bella when she was a puppy! She is on the pet padlet here . We always assumed she was a Lab/Border Collie mix but we weren't sure.
It was lovely to meet you!
