Death of Krishna

  • The Pandavas knew that something was going to occur because of the omens they had seen, but did not know what was going to happen
  • Soon enough, it was known to all that the city of Dwaraka was fated to be destroyed
  • A mysterious horror, shaped as a human was creeping through the night
    • It was colored yellow and black with a bald head and misshaped limbs
    • The men suspected it was the God of the dead, named Yama
  • The city was plagued with rats, a dread tempest ravaged the land, and the moon became eclipsed
  • At sunset, there were visions of headless men competing in battle
  • Krishna, a major deity, forbid the people from drinking wine and instead to perform devotions on the seashore
  • When the night came, a black woman who had yellow teeth walked the city, and grinned at all the house doors
  • The people in the city became extremely scared and were consumed with fear
  • Evil spirits had also inhabited the city and began to cause mischief. The spirits stole jewelry from the women and weapons from the men
  • The people went to the seashore as instructed and held a large feast
  • Fighting broke out and sons killed their fathers, fathers killed their sons. It was a mad house
  • Krishna and Balarama fled from the city and soon perished in the jungle
  • Krishna was mistaken for a deer by a nearby hunter
    • The hunter struck Krishna with an arrow conveniently in the one place where he could be wounded
    • Krishna departed to heaven, which is also known as Go Loka
  • The bodies of Krishna and Balarama were cremated
  • Arjuna and a group of people departed the city and the city was swallowed by the ocean
    • People who did not depart the city were taken down with it
